How it works

Three steps, and two of them are one tap.

  1. You ask.Type the amount and what it is for. You get a link.
  2. They pay. They open the link, long-press the code, and pay in WeChat or Alipay. No account, no app, no sign-up.
  3. You are paid. The money settles to your own bank account in your own currency.

What it costs

3.5%

All in, taken from the amount received.

One number and nothing under it: the wallet's charge for taking the payment, the conversion out of yuan, and ours. The person paying is charged the amount they owe and nothing more. Nothing to join, nothing monthly, and nothing at all if nobody pays you.

A bank does the same job with its own spread, a wire fee at each end, a form about why the money is leaving, and a week.

Who it is for

People, not companies.

Tutors, translators, consultants, designers, writers, agents, small studios and sole traders outside China with clients inside it.

Ordinary payment services are built for registered businesses with a website and a merchant account. Most of the people doing this work have neither, and their alternative is a bank branch, a form, and several days of not knowing.

What Dealio does not do

It never holds your money.

Who built it

Tom Shanahan.

He presented Rediscovering China on CCTV's English channel, and has worked between Australia and China since. He has raised over US$20 million for start-ups.

He built Dealio because he kept watching the same thing happen: the work done, both sides happy, and the money stuck at a bank counter.

Who runs it

One person, in Australia.
